Justin Timberlake and Beyonce lead MTV nominations

Pop stars Justin Timberlake and Beyonce led the nominations for the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards on Tuesday with seven apiece, followed by rapper Kanye West and Barbados teen-ager Rihanna who are both up for five awards.

Neo-soul singer Amy Winehouse got three nominations for the September 9 Las Vegas show, including video of the year -- for which she will be competing against Timberlake, Beyonce, Rihanna, West and French electronic dance duo Justice.

"What great nominees! They truly reflect a stellar year in music and videos," Christina Norman, MTV president, said in a statement.

Timberlake, West, hip hop artist Akon, rapper T.I. and R&B singer Robin Thicke are up for best male artist, while Winehouse, Beyonce, Rihanna, Fergie and Nelly Furtado will compete for best female artist.

Harry Potter Author JK Rowling Loses UK Privacy Lawsuit

A British court has rejected J.K. Rowling's lawsuit over the publication of a photo of her son that was taken on an Edinburgh street in November 2004.

The photo showed Rowling and her husband, Neil Murray, with their son, David, in a baby carriage. It appeared with a Sunday Express story on the Harry Potter author's approach to family life.

Rowling sued Express Newspapers and Big Pictures (UK), the agency that supplied the photo, complaining their right to privacy had been violated. The couple sought damages and a ban on further publication of the photo.

Express Newspapers settled the claim. On Tuesday, judge Sir Nicholas Patten dismissed the case against the agency.

Release of Anna Nicole tape blocked

A judge has issued a temporary restraining order that prevents the release of a 1994 videotape documenting a breast augmentation surgery for Anna Nicole Smith.

Superior Court Judge Mitchell L. Beckloff granted the order Friday at the request of Smith's former attorney and executor of her will, Howard K. Stern. The injunction prevents the sale, distribution or dissemination of the videotape.

In court documents, first obtained by CelebTV.com, Stern accused Gerald Wayne Johnson, the Texas doctor who performed the surgery, of sending a tape showing the procedure to Thomas Riccio, a Los Angeles-based memorabilia dealer. Stern claims the surgery was taped without the former model's consent.

Mexico's Carlos Slim tops Bill Gates as world's richest man: Fortune

With nearly 60 billion dollars, Mexican telecoms tycoon Carlos Slim Helu has overtaken Microsoft founder Bill Gates for the title of the world's richest person, Fortune magazine reports in its latest edition.

The strong performance by Slim's holdings on the Mexican stock exchange in recent months had pushed Gates into second place, after the US software magnate held the title for at least a decade.

"By our calculations, the 67-year-old Slim has amassed a 59 billion dollar fortune, based on the value of his public holdings at the end of July," Fortune said in its latest edition, due to hit newsstands this week.

"This number puts him just ahead of perennial number one, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, whose net worth is estimated to be at least 58 billion dollars."

Mexican financial website Sentido Comun reported last month that Slim, a heavyset and bearded 67-year-old, had overtaken Gates and estimated his personal fortune at almost 68 billion dollars.

While Slim has been steadily expanding his mobile phone and other businesses throughout Latin America, Gates, by comparison, has been channeling his energies into the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, a non-profit organization he set up in 2000 to tackle health, education and literacy problems around the world.

Richards Denies Wanting Another Child by Sheen

Actress Denise Richards has denied claims made by her ex-husband Charlie Sheen alluding to the fact that she wants him to provide a sperm donation so she can have another child.

The couple, who have two daughters, finalized their divorce last November, although Sheen is heading back to court to try and prevent Richards from phoning him whenever she likes, and to revisit custody terms.

However, Sheen now alleges Richards wants another child with him.

He says in an interview with "Entertainment Tonight," "There was a request for a donation. Without getting into it here, there is a specific document relating to this that I am going to reserve for a court."

Lily Allen is banned from the US

Pop star Lily Allen has had her US working visa revoked after being stopped at Los Angeles airport.

The singer was detained for five hours and questioned over her arrest in March for an alleged assault on a photographer in London.

She had flown into the US from Australia to attend tonight's MTV video music awards launch in Las Vegas.

Her spokesperson said: "Lily was questioned and her work visa was revoked. She was detained for five hours but not strip searched. Understandably she was upset by it."

Allen told the Daily Mirror that she was trying her best to get a new work visa for her US tour in September.

"I am trying everything I can to sort this out. It is my intention to play my American dates in September. This depends on the authorities granting me a new work visa."

"I want my fans to know that I will do everything I can to be back in America in September. I don't like letting my fans down and this is a situation that I am sure we can sort," she said.

Lindsay Lohan Checks into Rehab again

Days after she went into hiding following her latest DUI arrest, Lindsay Lohan has checked into a rehab centre in Utah.

This is the third time that beleaguered starlet has turned to a rehabilitation programme for alcohol and drug addiction.

Reports said that the Mean Girls star will be undergoing a one month intense programme at Cirque Lodge drug and alcohol rehab facility in Sundance, reports the Sun .

On August 3, Lohan was spotted heading for Kennedy airport with her younger sister Ali.

Her father Michael Lohan had confirmed that she was staying with her mum, grand mum and four siblings in Long Island.

Lohan, who has also been charged of possessing cocaine, is due to appear in court on August 24.

Australia’s stamp of approval on Brangelina

The uber couple, along with baby Shiloh, is about to be immortalized on an Australian postage stamp, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

The family photo will be repurposed from the cover of New Idea magazine and slapped onto a .50 cent stamp.

The stamp was announced at Australia's 10th Annual Magazine of the Year Awards, and is reportedly being produced by the Australia Post, a major sponsor of the awards.

Action star Tom Cruise and his wife Katie Holmes sped around the coast on a high speed jet ski, while holidaying in Sardinia, Italy, last week.

The Hollywood couple splashed around in the water with their 16-month-old daughter Suri, before cruising around the Mediterranean. The acting pair also headed over to the south of France, where they spent the night dancing at St Tropez' exclusive club VIP Room.

Cruise is currently based in Berlin, where he is working on his latest film, WWII epic Valkyrie. The 45-year-old plays Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, who led an attempt to assassinate Hitler during the war.
